Course description
This course provides principles of Infection Prevention & Control for front-line healthcare and social care staff. It explores how the personal health and fitness of healthcare workers can be a risk to colleagues and service users. The course ensures staff understand, practice and behaviour at the highest level to prevent and control infection. A health and social care expert will deliver this course once a month as a live interactive course or you can take the course anytime as a self-paced online course. This course covers knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of people working in the health and social care. Assessment includes multiple choice questions (MCQs).

During this course, you will cover the following:
- An introduction to infection prevention and control,
- Explore pathophysiological impact of infection
- Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs),
- The ‘chain of infection’ and how to ‘break the chain’,
- Understanding universal precautions for infection prevention and control,
- Management and safe disposal of clinical waste,
- Explore the importance of practising effective hand hygiene,
- Identify barriers to effective hand hygiene
